Madewell Made Me Do It Greer
You likely saw my Greer Tank hack shared by Hey June Handmade recently.
It was inspired by this ready to wear tank.
The full tutorial with illustrations (beautifully rendered by Adrianna), detailing the pattern changes is found on her blog. Sure tops my scrappy process.
I made a second tank without the ties in a Harts Fabric-sourced dreamy modal rayon. I’ve been letting it age in my stash for over a year. I’m always amazed when I go to link fabrics and find such incredible materials are still available. It feels like I’m sharing a dirty little secret.
At any rate, I have a few more images of the construction process for this tank (which I thought I had also taken for the linen noil version, but alas I cannot find).
The box pleat was created by stitching a short line at the mark for the added width and pressing the pleat open and flat with equal sides.
Attach the back yoke to the lower back. I used a flat fell here. A simple finished seam is fine too.
Attach side gussets to back. (Don’t forget to sew the darts. I did.)
Consider a reward for yourself when you tackle the bias binding.
Because I forgot to add a little extra length to this version, I opted to finish the hem with bias as well.
Bias from Cynthia.
If there’s one thing I know about style, it’s that I have a singular one. Jeans + tops. Fin.
I love how the cotton bias at the hem gives her a little bit of body, akin to using horsehair braid.
And add a jacket if it’s chilly.
I think I’ve shared all the Greer Jumpsuits I’ve made to date now.
Shorts version previously blogged here.
Zip front hack shared on Instagram.
I’ve got another one upstairs in progress. (There’s an add on in the works! Follow Hey June Handmade so you don’t miss its arrival.) I haven’t even started playing with the other view yet! I’ve got a few ideas though…
