Hi.

Welcome to my site. Sometimes I blog about my sewing.

BFF Bag Sew Along: Back Panel

BFF Bag Sew Along: Back Panel

The back panel of the BFF Bag sews up quite quickly as the exterior of the bag is plain. There’s one zippered pocket inside to tackle.

Sandwich the interior zipper’s lower tape (zipper pull opens from the left) between the right sides of the pocket bottoms and stitch.

The nylon coil zipper shown here was intentionally cut leaving a long tail. I like to set these kind of bag zippers without having to move the bulky pull out of the way multiple times, so when possible I keep my pull on a short tail outside the stitching line or I add it to the tape after the zipper is set.

Press the bottom pieces away from the zipper. Wrong sides now face together.

Add the pocket tops to the other side of the zipper in the same fashion.

Top stitch on both sides of the zipper through all the layers.

Square up and trim the completed pocket if needed, removing any excess from the top panel so as to preserve the pocket depth.

Layer- the back exterior (right side down), one lining (right side up) and the prepared zipper pocket right side up. If the exterior has a directional print, be sure its top orients to the same side as the zippered pocket’s top.

Baste around the outside edges, inside the seam allowance.

Finally, round the corners using the corner rounding template. The back panel is complete.
