Hi.

Welcome to my site. Sometimes I blog about my sewing.

Garden Greer

Garden Greer

Hey, Reader! I’ve got a new Hey June Handmade pattern to share with you today.

Presenting, the Greer Jumpsuit.

I sewed a few versions of view A during pattern testing. This post will focus on my “Garden Greer,” the Greer I envisioned wearing all summer while weeding my victory garden.

I used a Robert Kaufman railroad denim I purchased from Raspberry Creek Fabrics in late 2018. (It’s the remnant of the fabric from these Narcisse pants.) One should note this fabric does not qualify as having good drape as is recommended for both views of Greer. Nevertheless!

I had to bring in my potted plants last night as we’re expecting freezing temperatures and possibly snow in the next few days.

I made a straight size 6 in the shorts length* here. (For later versions, I graded to a size 4 for the shoulders.)

Post was edited to add the full length back view.

I chose to insert a metal zipper (a nylon coil dress or invisible zipper is recommended) because who doesn’t love that extra bling, right? And added a long fabric pull. I likely added slightly to the width of the back when inserting my metal zipper so that the teeth would be exposed.

I have some gaping in the back neckline, which is why I mentioned above that I graded the shoulders in subsequent versions. The pattern was also adjusted at the center back seam for the final. I’ve been meaning add 2 small darts to improve the fit of this Greer, but alas, I’m lazy.

It’s true Greer’s neck and arm holes are finished with bias as written in the assembly instructions, but you will be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to get a nice V. I personally prefer bias finish over facings and love that Adrianna uses the “French” method. My favorite tutorial is found here. It’s a great reference for beginners.

While making your own bias tape is easy, I often purchase handmade bias from my friend Nikki in Ohio through her Etsy shop.

I opted to use the larger-sized pocket and placed them as such to match the fabric stripes. It’s also worth noting the pockets are large enough to carry a beer.
