BFF Bag Sew Along: Final Assembly
The front, back, and middle panels are completed and now we get to finish our BFF Bag.
Find the centers of each side for the front and back panels as well as the quarter points along the middle panel. The seams between the top and bottom portions of the middle panel are two points.
Pin the exterior face of the front panel to the exterior face of the middle panel matching centers. The zippered portion of the middle orients to the shorter side (top) of the front pocket. The handle should align with the center of the short side where the front pocket opens as well.
Add additional pins working from the centers towards each rounded corner. With the front panel against the feed dogs, stitch together using the line of basting stitches as a guide. Take your time as you stitch the corners, easing the middle panel to avoid puckering. Clipping the seam allowance of the middle panel up to the basting stitches may also be helpful.
Ensure that the main zipper is open before repeat this process to attach the back panel. Slipping the adjustable strap in the front pocket will keep it securely out of the way. Hammering bulky areas (webbing ends) will make it easier to stitch through many layers.
Grade the seams allowances by about one half and notch the corners as needed.
Wrap the bias around the seam allowances, bringing the folded edge to meet the stitching line. Pin or clip in place as desired. Edge stitch to complete the seam binding.
Turn the bag right side out through the zippered top and admire your beautiful work!
