Hi.

Welcome to my site. Sometimes I blog about my sewing.

Pattern Testing: Chalk + Notch WREN

Pattern Testing: Chalk + Notch WREN

Chalk + Notch patterns. What's fabulous about this indie pattern company is, well, I can't think of anything that ISN'T fabulous. C+N is a small team of delightful women; Gabriela, the designer; Nicole, marketing coordinator; and Emi, copy editor. The designs are unique and interesting with great attention to detail and are offered in multiple cup sizes and in a wide size range (0-30). The patterns are well-tested by a large group, in several phases and the directions are nicely illustrated. Then! There's plenty of sewing support. There's a Facebook Group with over 10 thousand members and additional content on the website. Since my post is specifically about the Wren Blouse (and Dress!), I'm linking Wren's respective posts; pattern introduction, fitting, fabric and rtw inspiration, tester roundup.

Ok, so I'm writing this post in a bit of a hurry as I'm determined to publish it on WRENsday, as in the Wednesday Wren released. Say that three times fast. As such, I'm not going to reiterate all the pattern's technical details and specifications. That information is readily available in the pattern listing and Gabriela's posts linked above.

My testing sample

I made a size 10 (36” bust measurement) of the blouse length in a light weight cotton during the last phase of testing.

Those long sleeves! Just the right amount of statement, eh?

This specific fabric, a Swiss dot with raised stripes, from Alyssa May is sold out (I purchased in May 2020), but there's always another wonderfully tempting textile in the shop.

The back darts are optional, but gee whiz! Don't skip them. This extra detail takes the pattern up another notch.

The only alteration I made was to lower the bust darts ¾” as per my apex.
